Music Festivals Chicago

Lollapalooza is a three day eight stage music festival and Grant Park in downtown Chicago is the annual host of Lollapalooza. This festival is held in August and features heavy metal, alternative rock, hip hop, and punk rock bands, dance and comedy performances, and craft booths. The festival has been instrumental in the popularizing of bands like Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine, Nine Inch Nails, Jane’s Addiction, Soundgarden, The Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, Tool, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Hole, 30 Seconds to Mars, The Strokes, Green Day and Depeche Mode.

The Pitchfork Music Festival is an annual summer music festival held in Union Park, Chicago. This annual festival is normally held in the month of July and spreads over three days Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The festival focuses mainly on bands from alternative rock, rap/hip-hop, and electronica/dance, and sometimes includes hardcore punk, experimental/avant-garde rock and jazz in its lineups.

Grant Park Music Festival is an annual ten week classical music series held in Chicago. The Grant Park Music Festival has been a Chicago tradition since 1931 when free concerts were performed to lift spirits of Chicagoans during the Great Depression. Formerly, the Grant Park Music Festival was held at the Petrillo Music Shell in Grant Park but currently the Festival is housed in the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park. The festival features the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra and Grant Park Chorus along with featured guest performers and conductors.
